Show dates: 26th - 29th April 2017
Loosely based on the 1957 memoir of famous striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee, Gypsy tells the tale of Rose - an overeager, fame-hungry mother and her obsession with getting her two daughters into showbusiness.
Forcing her daughters to perform, the ‘ultimate showbusiness mother’ will stop at nothing to see her girls on stage, illuminated for all the world to see. But as their fading vaudeville act becomes yesterday’s news, her daughter Louise is forced by her mother into taking on a striptease gig. Louise becomes a major burlesque star – the infamous Gypsy Rose Lee - and to Rose’s dismay, doesn’t need her mother anymore. So, where does that leave Rose? The musical casts an eye over the seedier side of showbusiness and questions the need for success at any cost.
